I wanted to write a quick overview of our Guided Reading/Literacy Program.
Our classroom, along with Mrs. Wittal's Gr. 1 class, participates in guided reading on Days 3 and 5 of the school calendar. The program runs from 9:30 to 10:20. The students have been placed into reading level appropriate groups and will change groups as they progress in their reading. During this time, each adult will be able to work with two groups (25 minutes each/total 50 minutes). The students that do not have an adult supervisor will engage in an activity in the classroom. I supervise those students while leading a group of my own. Therefore, more students can read if we have more parent volunteers. All books and activities will be supplied for you.
This reading time is extremely valuable in your child's literacy development and we hope you can find a time to volunteer. Please refer to the Classroom News page to find a copy of the schedule. You may e-mail me or write a note in your child's agenda if you are able to volunteer. You do not have to attend every day, just the days that you are available. Even one day makes a difference!
I hope to see you soon - thank you for your support in your child's learning.
